Is God for You?

Look with me at this interesting exchange between Moses successor, Joshua, and the Commander of the Lord's army.

“When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand. Joshua approached Him and asked, “Are You for us or for our enemies? ” “Neither,” He replied. “I have now come as commander of the Lord’s army.” Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in worship and asked Him, “What does my Lord want to say to His servant? ””

‭‭Joshua‬ ‭5:13-14‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Joshua asks a simple and straight forward question, "Are you for us or for our enemies?"  But the response from the Commander is strange. "Neither."

This is a very important learning for each follower of Jesus. God is not on your side. God doesn't take sides. God is THE SIDE and His expectation is that you join Him.

Notice what Joshua does.  "Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in worship and asked Him, 'What does my Lord want to say to His servant?'"

It is never "us" vs "them" in the eyes of the Lord. We are simply to align our thoughts, attitudes, and actions with God's and simply worship him.

So...what do you need to do with this?  Ask the Lord. Then do what he commands.

Pastor Matt
