Strawberry Hill Church Plant

New City is a spirit-led, disciple-making, church-planting church. We are always excited for the next journey of planting neighborhoods and campuses in Kansas City. Since planting our first campus in 2012, we have planted and helped support many churches and neighborhoods throughout the city. We hope you will join us as we continue to fulfill our mission to be a church-planting church!

Strawberry Hill is set to launch in 2025. This church plant will be led by Joe and Halley Dean. Together they are the parents of Lucas Bullock, Asher Dean, and Halo Dean. Joe and Halley believe in celebrating their unique ethnic identities and the beauty in their interracial family in context of how scripture has displayed that we are first image bearers of God. Their lives have been broken open by the message of the cross and it is their mission to proclaim that same message to a city that is in desperate need of the hope the Gospel.

If you are interested in being a part of the Strawberry Hill’s support team there are many things you can do to take your next step 1) Attend the current small group, 2) email Joe (button to the right) to receive the current newsletter or receive more information, 3) come to Strawberry Hill’s sending church New City KCK at 818 Shawnee Road, KCK Sundays at 9:30 or 11:00 AM or 4) support us financially at https://mynewcity.churchcenter.com/giving/to/joseph-dean-support.

We’d love to meet you and answer any questions you may have and see where the Lord might align our paths.

Why Strawberry Hill?

Strawberry Hill is a diverse community just like the Kingdom of God. The ethnic ancestral makeup of Strawberry Hill is comprised of Hispanic and Latino people, along with many people of Eastern European descent and sub-Saharan African descents. Over 30% of Strawberry Hill’s population is comprised of immigrants and first-generation Americans. Although Strawberry Hill has a beautiful and rich heritage most residents live well below the poverty line.  The neighborhoods in Strawberry Hill are one of the lowest income neighborhoods in America. Research shows that this neighborhood has an income lower than 96.0% of U.S. neighborhoods. This neighborhood also has a higher rate of childhood poverty than 93.2% of U.S. neighborhoods. As a result of this poverty, the crime rate is extremely high compared to other cities with a similar population density. Strawberry Hill was given a Crime Grade of “F.” This is the lowest score given.

These are hard statics to look at and consider. However, we can see the opportunity for the Body of Christ to step in and serve alongside the residents, organizations, and small businesses who are working towards alleviating some of these concerns and supporting this community with love. It is my belief that only the proclamation of God’s Kingdom will truly bring lasting transformation to this community. The Gospel is truly for everybody regardless of ethnicity, economic status, or current world view.
